Project Configuration Engineer Program

Overview

The Project CE Practitioner Program is Pricefx’s updated and modernized training program for Configuration Engineers (CEs).
It has been redesigned from the ground up to provide a higher-quality learning experience, better alignment with real project needs, and a flexible structure suitable for both partners and customers.

The program combines self-paced learning, regular instructor support, and a final certification exam to ensure participants not only complete the training but are ready to apply their knowledge on real Pricefx projects.

Good to Know

Access to training content, materials, and the practice environment is provided for a period of 2 months. Access is activated every Monday for students who successfully passed the interviews.

Public Q&A sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday. Attendance is optional but highly recommended, as these sessions focus on clarifying the training materials. They are not intended for discussing customer- or partner-specific configurations or project topics. If no participants join within the first 15 minutes, the Technical Training Advisor may cancel the session. To get the most value, we encourage students to submit their questions in advance.

Students are expected to book their private Q&A time by utilizing MS Booking Link.

Prerequisites

Business User Program or/and Admin Program

What background is expected for this training program:

Professional programming experience with at least two years of object-oriented programming (i.e. Java).
Solution development, problem-solving, testing, and troubleshooting skills are required.
Understand data structures (Arrays, Maps, etc.), algorithmising and coding skills (variables, loops, conditions), and Groovy language features (syntax, operators, closures).
Experience with databases and data, ideally SQL, working with tables, and examining data.
Working knowledge of IDE (IntelliJ Idea or other) and GIT (feature branches, checkout, pull, push, commit, rebase, amend, merge, stash).
Good spoken and written English, we require CEFR B2 level. Must have the ability to communicate, be confident to express their thoughts, and understand technical documentation and requirements.

Flexible start – participants can register for the program at any time
Self-paced learning – no fixed cohorts or mandatory timelines

Effort estimation is ~80 hours self-study (≈ 8 weeks) + public Q&A sessions

Instructor-supported – weekly Q&A sessions (2 optional public sessions and 2 individual sessions per student)
Certification-driven – practical validation of CE skills at the end

Content Alignment & Improvements

The topics covered in the Project CE Practitioner Program are very similar to the current CE training, ensuring continuity with existing knowledge and expectations.

Key updates include:

Quoting has been separated from the program and will be available in a follow-up training after completing Project CE
Several new topics have been added that are essential for all Configuration Engineers, including:
- Condition Records
- Git
- Performance

In addition, all courses have been completely remade and updated:

Higher overall content quality
New interactive learning elements
Improved structure and clarity
Significantly better user experience

Even where topics overlap with previous CE training, the content is more practical, more engaging, and more effective.

Learning Flow

The Project CE Practitioner Program follows a clear and structured learning path:

1. Student Onboarding & Verification

Each participant goes through an initial verification step (interview) to ensure they have:

The required background and experience
Sufficient time availability
The foundational knowledge needed to succeed

Based on this, preparation recommendations may be provided before starting the training.

2. Foundation & Environment Setup

Participants are introduced to the Pricefx environment and essential tools, including:

Pricefx platform basics
Studio and IntelliJ
Git and GitLab fundamentals

3. Core Configuration Engineer Basics

This section builds the conceptual foundation of configuration in Pricefx, focusing on:

Core CE principles
Understanding key components
How configuration elements fit together

4. Master Data & QueryAPI

Participants learn how to work with master data, including:

Legacy master data access
QueryAPI usage
Practical data reading patterns

5. Calculation Logics & Price Setting

One of the core parts of the program, covering:

Input fields
Calculated Field Sets (CFS)
Calculation flows
Price setting processes and logic design

6. Process & Platform Configuration

This section connects configuration logic with platform processes, including:

Workflows
Condition Records
Platform management concepts

7. Analytics & Data Management

Participants learn the core principles of Analytics, including:

Analytics concepts relevant to CEs
Table structures
Key analytical processes
Data loading fundamentals

Instructor Support & Q&A Sessions

Support is a core part of the Project CE Practitioner Program.

Weekly Q&A sessions are held throughout the program
- Open forum for questions
- Discussion of real project scenarios
- Direct interaction with instructors
Each participant also receives two individual 1-1 sessions with an instructor
- Personalized feedback
- Progress review
- Guidance on applying concepts in practice

This combination ensures participants stay on track and build real confidence.

Certification Exam

The program concludes with a Certification Exam, which provides a practical validation of the participant’s Configuration Engineer knowledge and skills.

Successful completion demonstrates readiness to work independently on Pricefx projects.
