Pricefx MCP Tools Types

This page organizes the Pricefx MCP Tools by four independent classifications to help you quickly find the right tool for your use case.

Tools by Permission

  • Read Access Tools – Retrieve or search existing data (objects, transactions, action items, Data Sources, Datamarts, knowledge base articles) without modifying anything in Pricefx. Safe to run repeatedly.

  • Write Access Tools – Create or modify data in Pricefx (e.g., creating action items, deploying Agents to a partition). Use with intent – these tools change system state.

Tools by Role

The role grouping is just a guidance. Access is enforced and described on Pricefx MCP Tool Access Control.

  • Business User – General-purpose tools for day-to-day work: searching the knowledge base, fetching objects, querying transactions, and managing action items.

  • Configuration Engineer – Tools for building and refining Pricefx Agents: generating and updating an Agent's JSON definition before deployment.

  • Admin – Tools that make partition-level changes, including deploying a configured Agent so it starts calculating.

Tools by Program

  • Agents (Agent Accelerator) – Tools that support live Agents already running on a partition:

    • Retrieving action items

    • Prioritizing detected items by segment

    • Pulling related customer/product transactions

Tools by Connection Type

  • Public – Reachable via an unauthenticated public MCP connection. No partition-specific authorization required.

  • Private – Reachable only via an authorized private MCP connection scoped to a specific Pricefx partition, so results reflect that partition's data and entitlements.
