List Knowledge Sources

The knowledge_list_sources tool lists the documentation sources that the AI assistant can search, for example Pricefx Knowledge Base, Pricefx REST API, and Pricefx Groovy API. For each source, the tool returns its Id, name, type, URL, and number of indexed pages. Use the source_id with the List Knowledge Pages tool to list the pages of one source.

Permissions

The knowledge_list_sources tool does not use your Pricefx permissions. All users see the same list of sources.

Parameters

The knowledge_list_sources tool has no parameters. The tool always returns all sources.

Output

The tool returns a list of sources. Each source has the following fields:

  • Id – Identifier of the source. Use it as source_id in the List Knowledge Pages.

  • Name – Name of the source.

  • Type – Type of the source.

  • Base URL – URL of the source, if one is available.

  • Page Count – Number of indexed pages in the source.

Behavior and Limitations

  • The knowledge_list_sources tool returns all sources in one response. The tool has no filters, no sorting, and no pagination.

  • The order of the sources is the order the knowledge service returns them in. The tool does not sort the sources.

  • The list and the Page Count values show the current state of the index. They change when sources are added, removed, or re-indexed.

  • Page Count is the number of indexed pages, not the number of pages on the website. A site can have pages that are not indexed.

  • Base URL can be empty. Only sources with a URL have one.

  • The knowledge_list_sources tool lists sources only. It does not return page content and does not search. To find information, use the knowledge_search tool. To list the pages of one source, use the knowledge_list_pages tool.

  • The list of sources depends on the Pricefx MCP server you are connected to, not on your Pricefx partition or permissions. Different servers, for example staging and production, can list different sources.

  • If the knowledge service is unavailable, the knowledge_list_sources tool returns an error. The tool has no backup source. The knowledge_search tool can still return results in this case, because it falls back to a local search index.
